The following are the prerequisites of spiritual retreat:

• Islam (the performer’s being Muslim)

• Intention of spiritual retreat

• Ritual purity (being free of menstrual or post-natal bleeding or major ritual impurity)

• Sanity

• Performing it in a mosque

• Fasting (for the imperative spiritual retreat)
